About Torque Engineering

Torque Engineering, LP is an automotive business founded by Larry Keast in 2014.  It is a partnership with Venturetech, LP which Larry started in his garage over 40 years ago.

Venturetech manufactures diesel-hydraulic drilling machinery for the worldwide oilfield which are called power swivels and top drives. Car guys are interested in these machines which range from 173 to 800 HP and torques from 7000 to 35,000 ft-lbs. They have 5000 psi hydraulic systems to 320 gpm, plus pneumatic and electronic remote controls.  Over 1000 of these machines have been manufactured and shipped around the world.  Check it out at www.venturetechnet.com.

The oilfield roller coaster has been good and bad.  Venturetech has weathered many storms, some years manufacturing 100 machines, bad years 4 machines, covid year 1 machine – crazy business.  Thankfully we saved our money during good years, and in bad years we reinvested in our plant and our people.  We bought more land, expanded the plant, built a beautiful car shop, and kept everything paid off.

Our small team includes machine designers, engineers, technicians, machinists, welders, and mechanics. 

Our engineering resources include Autocad, Autodesk Inventor, 3D modeling, FEA, and a MakerBot 3D Printer.

Our machine shop has CNC machines along with manual mills and lathes.

Fab shop – MIG, TIG, plasma cutting, and bandsaws for bar stock to 16” dia.

Forklifts from 5000 to 35,000 lbs, 8000 lb telelift, 10 ton bridge crane, and 10 jib cranes.

Our oilfield test rig is a 630 HP dyno with 35,000 ft-lbs & 200 rpm capacity, not very automotive…

As you can see, Larry’s career has been oilfield engineering and manufacturing, but he has always had a love for cars and especially Jeeps.

In 2014 Larry set up Torque Engineering to not only showcase his car projects, but could he actually create automotive products, maybe create some non-oilfield income and jobs?

So what products?  Larry’s an entrepreneur, a registered engineer, and an inventor with some 30 patents and several more pending.  Never interested in copying other’s designs, Larry is always looking for new product opportunities based on better ways of doing things.

Finding new markets is not easy and developing a new product takes lots of time and money.  Still, Larry thinks it’s fun and anyway it’s all he knows how to do.  

So where are new opportunities for automotive products?  Mostly there are many competitive brands of everything, primarily made in China which Larry does not endorse.  What is truly new or has been done poorly?
